It's bad enough that the 700-mile (1,130 km) physical fence is being held up because of environmental and property rights issues, but now Homeland Security is annoucing that the 28-mile virtual fence has also been delayed. The $20 million project dubbed " Project 28 " is a series of sensor towers and mobile communicators built along the Nogales, Arizona border crossing by Boeing Co. Even though it was previously announced by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff this past Friday that the project was ready, The Washington Post is now reporting that the delay of the first phase of this pilot program could be as long as three years due to technical issues and ability to meet the demands of the Border Patrol.
